Fabric Tuesday

I'm making more progress on my Texas Roadtrip QAL.  Here is my sea turtle block representing the Rio Grande Valley.

Isn't he adorable???  Just love this little guy. I'm plugging away.  Hopefully will get a lot done over the weekend.

Design Wall Monday 8/25/14

I finally finished the mystery quilt I've been testing for Persimmon Quilts and her mystery quilts for Quilts of Valor.  Guys, this one turned out gorgeous and she just started putting out the steps so if you want a gorgeous, fun quilt to make, head on over and get started!  This was #36, but every one has been fantastic.

So, since I finally finished that, I've been able to get back to my Texas Roadtrip QAL.  I LOVE this quilt!  Here's my version of the camper block for Big Bend...

And since I got that block done, I was able to assemble the third quadrant....

And then put all three up on the design wall...

I just don't know how I could love this more!!  It is so pretty.  I can hardly wait to get the last quadrant done.  There are a lot more pieced blocks in the last quadrant so it may take a little bit of time.  But I did manage to get the Houston block done.  The original quilt along calls for a sailboat block.  So I changed it up and here's mine...

See, I lived in Houston until I was 13 and my favorite times were spent at the Astrodome, watching the Astros play baseball.  Thus my block is for the Astros.

Many block to go!  Can't wait to see how much I can get done before the next Design Wall Monday linkup at Patchwork Times!

My Adventures with Sugar Cookies

So at 9:30 tonight my daughter reminded me that she needed me to make cookies for one of her best friend's birthday tomorrow, the first day of school.  She had asked me yesterday, and reminded me today, and I got so busy with sewing, that I completely forgot!  So I went into the kitchen, pulled out some chocolate chips, and went to make cookies.  My recipe calls for 2 cups of butter.  So I opened a new package and this is what I saw....

Crap.  So I opened up the second package and had the same problem.  They are both heading back to the store tomorrow, but that didn't help with the cookies that I needed to make tonight.  So we changed to sugar cookies.  My sugar cookie recipe calls for a cup of butter and I had one stick, so I halved the recipe.  I start adding the ingredients into my KitchenAid in a hurry, managing to spill sugar on the floor in the process...

When I finally get a batch in the oven, I forget to set the timer.  Thus, this is how the first ones came out.  :(  Slightly browned.  My daughter tasted one and said they taste like popcorn.

Here's the second dozen.  :)  These are perfect.

Don't let my photography and terrible time in the kitchen stop you from trying these.  I love these cookies.  They are crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside.  They have become a family favorite.  Here's a link to the recipe.

I'm heading to bed, finally!  Goodnight!

Sunday Stash 8/24/14

Hi y'all!  Have you missed me?  I've been working super hard on finishing up a test quilt for a mystery running over at Persimmon Quilts and her Quilt of Valor Mysteries.  It's not too late to join in and trust me, the quilt is gorgeous and you will want to make it!

So now that I'm done with that, I'm back and going to start sharing some of my finds from our shopping in the Row by Row Experience.  First up are these lovely nutcrackers.  If you're new around here you don't know that I collect nutcrackers, so when we found this, and the store had an end of bolt discount...well....I had to finish off the bolt.

They also had this super cute circus fabric.  Again, end of bolt special. :)

This one too!  (You may notice the stickers on the side.  These are some "non-sticky" address labels that I have and I mark how much yardage is on each piece as I put it away.  That way I always know if I have enough for a project when I'm shopping the stash.)

Mom picked out this next one.  Again, an end of bolt special.  I wasn't sure about it at the time, but it is growing on me.  Really fun colors.

I have been on a hunt for really great script type fabrics to work as backgrounds.  I found this one up in McKinney, Texas, and I adore it!

And my other favorite...

And I had to replace the Grunge fabric that I used up for a different quilt.  Just wait until you see the other yummy Grunge fabric I found.  I'll share it next week.

I wish you could see this one more clearly.  It's another end of bolt special I found.  The lines make kind of wonky interlocking rectangles.  Can't wait to add this to my next scrappy quilt.

And last for tonight is this paisley piece.  It's white with aqua colored paisley.  It's gorgeous and I don't think 3 yards is enough.  Think I need to get another 3 so I can use it in a queen sized quilt.

That's it for this week!  Linking up with the fabulous Molli Sparkles!

Sunday Stash 8/2/14

In case anyone was wondering, I've been on a bit of a vacation.  I took a week off work for my nephew's baptism and my mom and daughter and I went on a shop hop, catching a bunch of shops in the Row by Row Experience.  I have so much to show yall!!  But it's gonna take a few weeks to get them all in.  So here's the first installment.

Starting off with this Cotton & Steel fabric.  I'm participating in a fat/eighth swap of Cotton & Steel over at Sew at Home Mummy.  Erin is a terrific swap hostess and if you haven't joined in yet, the next round starts tomorrow.  You'll love it!!

This fantastic fat quarter pack I picked up at the Fat Quarter Shop's flash sale.  It was like $22 for the pack.  OMG!  I so love it.  It is called Return to Atlantis by Jason Yenter.  I found out that he is my newest favorite designer as I picked up a lot of his fabrics on this last shop hop last week.  I have definite plans for these.

I also found a few yards of it on sale during my travels the last week.  Next I snapped a few pics of just a little bit of what I picked up this week.  I adore these fat quarters.  From a distance, they look just like any other houndstooth pattern.  But close up....Texas.

This is my favorite find from the hop.  I love this line and cannot wait for it to hit the stores.  I want a fat quarter stack at least.

This shows my take over the last week.  Mom may have spoiled me a bit for my birthday.  Maybe just a little.  But now you see why it will take a while to show you everything!

Hope everyone had a great week while I was gone!  Trying to play catch up now and can't wait to really show everyone all of my finds.  Have a terrific week!
